All David Hobby wanted to do was pass along photo lighting tips to a friend. He jotted down some ideas and posted a blog —Strobist— to show how any beginning photographer could get beyond ordinary shots by using inexpensive, $300 flashes, just like pros. Then the world found out about him. Hobby now has 200,000 mostly amateur photographers as devoted readers. His site attracts 1.6 million page views a month.

I stumbled upon this wall about two years ago while doing research on Herb Lubalin’s work. I was very happy to see this was being restored by The Center for Design Study in Atlanta.
The Center for Design Study, having acquired the wall, is engaged in fundraising to support the meticulous and extensive restoration required. The goal is to see Dorfman’s wall restored to its full integrity and as part of a permanent traveling exhibition on historical American design, to serve as a tool for education and expanding awareness of the value of intelligently applied design. The wall is a window to the past that should be built up, not torn down.
